Indian Idol.... eh???

Bharat Ki Shaan eh? who will be 'it' when all the good ones are clearly standing in line for elimination??
The reality show that is being aired on Sony entertainment Television is designed to find the next singing sensation of India. So far, the contestants have gone through two rounds of selection. The rounds were judged by 4 Moguls of the music industry- Anu Malik, Alisha Chinnai, Javed Akhtar and Udit Narayan. There is no doubt that they will have chosen the best of the participants.

However, now the contest has moved on to the Piano Round i.e. round 3 of the contest. Here the contestants have to perform and the public i.e. the viewers vote. So, I think we have to question the authenticity of the results. How many people are actually voted out i.e. by not receiving any votes? This does not seem to be much of a problem here as the contestants are ordinary people. They can influence the viewers only by their performance. Or may be not.

This is what 27 yrs old Pinky Maidasani found out when she was eliminated from the contest. The public definitely did not listen to her sing. A trained classical singer, a music teacher by profession Pinky Maidasani definitely has the voice of a future Indian Idol. It is obvious that people are prejudiced towards physical beauty.
Anybody with a true ear for music will tell Pinky is no ordinary wannabe. She has the voice of a star. But there must something that did not appeal to the audience or maybe they just blatantly ignored her. She is a typical bindaas city girl openly proclaiming her love for judge Anu Malik. She considers him as a guru and inspiration for her music. Or maybe the viewers just did not like her hair colour?!!!!! But no amount of reasoning justifies her being eliminated from the contest.
Not that the contestants will miss out much by not being Indian Idol. In retrospect, there have been 2 previous Indian Idols who have vanished into oblivion. So, in a way Pinky is now free to reach her goal of challenging Shakira, Whitney Houston et al.

  1. i totally disagree with your views. Indian Idol is not just about singing talent but about a personality also. Pinky obviously lacked tht wholesome persona to be chozen as Indian Idol. Not every singer can be an idol.

  2. thats true but then if the show ws a talent hunt or personality contest your argument would be correct. Indian Idol has always stressed about singing and nothing else.

  4. and why on earth would us regionalists, who judge people on the basis of which community they belong to, be fair and concentrate solely on talent? such shows are doomed from the outset..but does the channel really care? its just interested in filling its coffers from the revenue generated from the countless sms votes sent by "Oh-He's from my gaanv" " people
